This training incorporates various factors that affect individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families, particularly when experiencing a crisis. Professionals will learn about the history of ASD as it is currently understood, the range of signs & symptoms of ASD and effective approaches to support the wellbeing of clients and callers. Professionals will also learn about supportive responses and interventions to assist clients with ASD and their caregivers.

What You'll Learn

After completing this training, participants will be able to...

  • Distinguish the signs and symptoms of ASD and accompanying factors that contribute to crisis with individuals diagnosed with ASD.
  • Describe effective approaches in the treatment of ASD, along with supportive interventions for caregivers. 
  • Accurately identify ways to incorporate effective strategies in managing a crisis with individuals with ASD and their caregivers.

This training is approved for 1 CE clock hour for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists in the state of Ohio.

Cassandra Storlie, PhD, LPCC-S (OH), RN (IL), NCC

Professor and Doctoral Program Coordinator in Counselor Education & Supervision, Kent State University

Cassandra “Cassie” Storlie, PhD, LPCC-S (OH), RN (IL), NCC, is a professor and doctoral program coordinator in counselor education and supervision at Kent State University. She earned her Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from the University of Iowa. Storlie has been a licensed professional counselor for over 20 years and has held a variety of leadership positions in counseling at the state, regional, national and international levels. She is the current president of ACES, the largest division of the American Counseling Association, and she serves as co-editor for Journal of Counselor Leadership and Advocacy. As a Latina, Storlie’s research is focused on leadership and advocacy in counseling and on the development of marginalized populations, specifically Latinos/as/x and individuals with disabilities. She was senior editor for the book, Counseling Leaders & Advocates: Strengthening the Future of the Profession. She was funded by the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation for 7 years to research and support college and career readiness among historically marginalized youth in Northeast Ohio. She has authored/coauthored approximately 60 journal articles and book chapters. 

Continuing Education Approvals 

The Ohio State University College of Social Work provides approvals for continuing education for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists that are accepted by the state of Ohio Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage and Family Therapist (CSWMFT) Board.

Certificates & CE Reporting 

CE certificates will be available for download in your learner portal after submitting the evaluation survey.

Hours for those with Ohio licenses that are submitted with the evaluation survey will be reported to CE Broker every 14 days (twice per month). 

⚠️ Note: You may only complete this training once for CE credit. You may revisit the content, but only one certificate will be issued and credit will only be reported to CE Broker one time.
