In Feedback 1: From Theory to Models, we explored the value of well-delivered feedback and the different types of feedback employed in medical education. We also reviewed evidence-based principles of effective feedback, as compiled by Shulte (2007).

Additional studies noted discrepancies between the intentions of those that provide feedback and the expectations of the recipients. Instructors and learners may disagree on the quality of feedback. Learners frequently report receiving vague and non-actionable feedback from faculty who believe they have provided meaningful and specific feedback. While learners are in the best position to judge the effectiveness of feedback, they may not always recognize the inherent benefits.

This module examines the relationship and interactions between the instructor, the learner, and the unique environments in healthcare professions.
