"Putting Professionalism into Practice," as a paradigm, was developed by the Ohio State University College of Medicine Professionalism Council as part of its efforts to better understand and promote professionalism. This module on professionalism contains instruction on how to use error analysis to better understand why health care professionals succeed or fail in demonstrating appropriate professional values.

Healthcare professionals share a tremendous responsibility for the health and lives of patients and of communities. In practices and medical centers you will find many wonderful people who do what they do because they truly care about their patients. Healthcare professionals believe in the values of the professions; it is this commitment to values that brings meaning to their work and to their lives.

While we are privileged to have immensely rewarding work, our jobs are not easy ones. We care for people during their moments of greatest stress, moments that are life-altering for them and their families. Unfortunately, we don't always demonstrate our values as well as we would like. In this series of modules, we hope to involve you in a dialogue that will help us all better understand what we can do as a group and as individuals to better "Put Professionalism into Practice" every day and every moment.
