CLNTEACH X221 - Advancing Your Clinical Teaching (05): Teaching Philosophies
Dr. Dan McFarlane, a Med-Peds hospitalist at Ohio State University Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has designed this module as a model to define your role as an educator with the aid of a teaching philosophy. A teaching philosophy is a personal narrative that describes your vision for teaching and learning, a description of your approach, and justification for that approach. Just as you would approach patient care with a process and purpose, clinical educators should also approach teaching with a process and purpose. The philosophy statement illuminates your process and purpose for leading to the best possible learning outcomes. This module supports your development of a teaching philosophy through exploration of your beliefs about teaching, your experience with teachers as a learner, and understanding how students learn and grow.
