Intergenerational Programs: Evidence in Practice is a self-paced, asynchronous online course designed for social workers and human service professionals interested in fostering positive intergenerational relationships. This training explores the evidence, theory, and design strategies that support effective intergenerational programs across communities.

What You'll Learn

Learners completing this course will be able to describe the value of evidence-based intergenerational programs to different stakeholder groups; they will be able to develop a strong system that sustains partnerships that nimbly pursue opportunities and overcome obstacles; finally, learners will be able to employ specific strategies for intergenerational programming and support others in doing the same. Recognizing that learners possess different experiences and goals, the course offers additional networking, programming, evaluation, and learning opportunities in the intergenerational community.

Presenters

Shannon Jarrott, PhD

Professor of Social Work, The Ohio State University
Dr. Jarrott is a gerontologist and global expert in intergenerational program research and practice. She teaches and leads translational research supported by federal and nonprofit agencies.

Jill Juris, PhD

Associate Professor, Appalachian State University
Dr. Juris researches community-based programs and intergenerational interventions, aiming to reduce social isolation among older adults.

Rachel M. Scrivano, PhD

Post Doctoral Fellow, Washington University in St Louis
Rachel M. Scrivano, Ph.D. is a post doctoral fellow at Washington University in St Louis. Her research interests largely focus on the impact of incorporating intergenerational contact and gerontological education in reducing ageism and increasing inclusivity among community members.
