INSTRTCH X004 - Immersive Digital Educational Escape Rooms: Part 2 - The Design Process

This second course in the two-part series on Immersive Digital Educational Escape Rooms (IDEERs) provides a comprehensive, step-by-step framework for designing IDEERs that align with course goals and learning outcomes. While the first course in the series outlined key contextual information and pedagogical foundations of IDEER activity design—focusing on the “what” and “why”—this course addresses the practical aspects of “how” to create effective IDEER activities. Participants will learn to identify essential components that support instructional goals, evaluate multiple digital puzzle formats, tools, and templates, and convert traditional quiz questions into authentic clues that promote critical thinking. Furthermore, participants will develop a comprehensive design plan for their own unique IDEER and acquire a set of best practices to ensure the activity is accessible to all learners. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to implement impactful and interactive educational experiences that promote scaffolded learning and sustained engagement beyond a single, isolated activity.
