This course will provide an overview of current and historical trends in tobacco use, discuss benefits and barriers to quitting, and review treatment strategies for tobacco use disorder, including medications and behavioral interventions.

  • Review current prevalence rates and trends for tobacco use globally and in the United States.
  • Identify health disparities in tobacco use.
  • Review DSM-V-TR criteria for tobacco use disorder.
  • Review the risks of tobacco use as well as the health benefits of quitting.
  • Identify barriers to quitting.
  • Review treatment strategies including policy-level interventions, pharmacotherapy, and behavioral interventions.

What You’ll Earn

  • Certificate of Completion from Center for Continuing Medical Education (CCME) at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUMC).

Through the support of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation, these training modules have been developed to educate the healthcare workforce that serves patients with substance use disorders. Successful completion of a single course provides one hour of free continuing education credit for physicians and nurse practitioners. Participants may complete all courses in the OneOhio series or select those presenting opportunities for professional growth.
