CRMGTPV X206 - Diagnosis, Referrals and Treatment of Cannabis Use Disorder

This training reviews the 11 criteria of cannabis use disorder, red flags that indicate if someone is likely to develop a use disorder, and symptoms to determine if there is a crisis or not. This session covers conditions that could occur from cannabis use disorder and the appropriate steps in referring a caller to the appropriate agency.

Time to Completion
Total Asynchronous Time is approximately 3 hours.
Course Completion Requirements
Participants must submit a pre-training survey, complete all coursework requirements, and pass the training post-test with a score of at least 80%. Unlimited attempts are allowed. The post-training evaluation survey will be available once coursework and the post-test are completed, and the evaluation must be submitted to receive CE credit.

What You’ll Learn
After completing this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe cannabis use disorder.
- Identify how to distinguish between someone who has a disorder versus someone who has just used the substance.
- Recognize red flags that could make someone likely to have a disorder and guide referral to the appropriate place.
- Describe crisis conditions from cannabis.
What You’ll Earn
- Social workers completing this training will receive 3 clinical continuing education clock hours under ACE.
- This training is approved for 3 CE clock hours for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists, as well as substance use counselors in domain C4 – assessment and diagnosis of substance use disorder in the state of Ohio.

Community Lecturer at The Ohio State University College of Social Work
Jennifer Haywood, LISW-S, LICDC-CS, has been a full-time community lecturer at The Ohio State University College of Social Work since 2003. She specializes in teaching DSM coursework, Motivational Interviewing, and addictions and clinical courses. She has been an experienced continuing education trainer since 1998 and an addictions specialist since 1997. Haywood currently trains groups, teaches, and runs a private practice in Worthington, Ohio, where she treats clients for mental health issues, addiction, and trauma. She also supervises clinicians in her private practice and has been an active member of the Ohio State and Columbus community since earning her MSW in 1996.
Continuing Education Approvals
The Ohio State University College of Social Work, (Provider: 1628), is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The Ohio State College of Social Work maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 4/30/25-4/30/28. Social workers completing this course receive 3 clinical continuing education credits.

Certificates & CE Reporting
CE certificates will be available in your learner portal within 1 business day after submitting the evaluation survey. Hours for Ohio licenses submitted with the evaluation survey will be reported to CE Broker every 14 days (twice per month).
⚠️ Note: You may only complete this training once for CE credit. You may revisit the content, but only one certificate will be issued and credit will only be reported to CE Broker one time.
