Spiritual care at end of life remains for many people a job for the chaplain. However, health care providers are often present during critical junctures at the end of life and can make a difference in the quality of this critical life transition. This module will review signs of spiritual distress and provide a spiritual assessment format. In addition, the death beliefs and practices associated with the world's major religions will be described. Since much of what is considered spiritual care does not have to be religiously-based, non-sectarian intervention strategies designed to promote spiritual health at end of life will be considered.
