GERONT X008 - Gerontology - Grief & Loss
Grief, as a response to loss, is a painful human experience, not a pathological one. In fact, the inability to grieve can lead to conditions such as depression. Examining our own grief responses is the initial step in learning how to be helpful to others who mourn. This module is an exploration of the process of grief as the normal human reaction to all loss and provides a blueprint for understanding how to respond to family, residents, and staff who are grieving both individually and programmatically.

Online Self-Paced: A course that is available fully online with no scheduled class sessions or fixed due dates. You can start coursework at any time and work through the material independently at your own pace.

This module is projected to take approximately 1 hour to complete.

Successful completion of this course requires earning a score of at least 99% on required assessments.

- Identify some of the losses experienced by persons who are aging, ill, and/or dying; those of their families and your own.
- Describe one model of grief.
- Give examples of how to respond to persons who demonstrate grief responses.
- Resolve the Grief & Loss case study.
