Families are complex groups, having been shaped by the society, culture and spiritual legacy that informs them. As such, when they encounter crisis, such as the decline and imminent death of a family member, each family responds to the event in its own unique way. The purpose of this module is to identify the family as the focus of care during such life events. In order to give gold standard end-of-life care to our clients and residents, we must also respond therapeutically to the needs of their families as well. This module explores the variety of family responses towards the death of a loved one and describes therapeutic techniques designed to assist them as they grieve their imminent losses.
