End-of-life care and long-term care each provide numerous opportunities for ethical dilemmas to arise during the course of each day. The two of them combined can create a dynamic environment in which ethical boundaries blur and decision-making can become confusing. For instance, a client's dementia may complicate end of life care decision-making, especially in the absence of family who may live far away. This course will review basic ethical principles, professional codes of conduct, and patient bills of rights that affect the care that is given to clients across all care settings. Steps designed to help you work through ethical dilemmas will be outlined and measures to improve ethical practices where you work will be recommended.
