GERONT X013 - Gerontology - Cultural Competence

Not only is the population we take care of culturally diverse, but the health care professional population has become increasingly culturally diverse as well. Valuing cultural diversity is extremely important during times of serious illness and death, because it is exactly at such times that one's cultural beliefs and rituals come into play. Becoming culturally competent requires that one becomes self-aware enough to be able to respond in ways that are respectful and knowledgeable to persons who are different from us. This module reviews those aspects of cultural competence that are most critical to providing end-of-life care.
