GERONT X014 - Gerontology - Communication Skills

Today's health care environment demands a high degree of communication and interpersonal skillfulness. The ability to work as part of team delivering care to a fragile population requires clarity. The ability to work with individuals facing life's end requires compassion. This module will describe a number of skill sets, including active listening and assertiveness skills. In addition, Buckman's SPIKES protocol for delivering bad news, as well as specific clinical situations that require specialized communication skills will be reviewed.
