SWK X210 - DSM-5-TR in Practice: Five Key Diagnostic Categories Every Clinician Should Know

This training provides an overview of five major DSM-5-TR (2022) diagnostic classifications commonly identified in adults. It is designed to strengthen assessment by discussing diagnostic criteria, introducing relevant clinical tools and highlighting cultural considerations when diagnosing.
It is strongly recommended that you have access to a copy of the DSM-5-TR when you take this training.
Delivery Options
This training is constructed as a non-interactive, video-based asynchronous distance learning training.
Time to Completion
Total Asynchronous Time is approximately 5.5 hours.
Training Completion Requirements
- Participants must complete all coursework requirements and pass the training post-test with a score of at least 80%. Unlimited attempts are allowed.
- The post-training evaluation survey will be immediately available once the required coursework and post-test are finished, and the evaluation must be completed to receive CE credit.

What You’ll Learn
After completing this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify disorders within the Depressive, Bipolar, Anxiety, Trauma- and Stressor-Related, and Substance-Related and Addictive categories in the DSM-5-TR.
- Distinguish between overlapping diagnoses by understanding clinical features between disorders.
- Describe clinical caveats and cultural considerations when conducting the clinical assessment.
What You’ll Earn
- Social workers completing this training will receive 5.5 clinical continuing education clock hours under ACE.
- This training is approved for 5.5 continuing education clock hours for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists in the state of Ohio.
- This training is approved for 1 continuing education clock hour for substance use counselors in domain C4 – assessment and diagnosis of substance use disorder (1) in the state of Ohio.

Dr. Jacquelyn Meshelemiah, MSW, PhD
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Social Work at The Ohio State University
Dr. Jacquelyn Meshelemiah, MSW, PhD, is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Social Work at The Ohio State University. She brings more than 25 years of experience leading DSM workshops and teaching DSM content to graduate students. As a licensed social worker and seasoned educator, Dr. Meshelemiah developed the College’s online DSM practice course and has taught the course in-person and/or online for more than two decades. Attendees of this workshop will benefit from her deep expertise, practical insight and engaging approach to clinical assessment.
Continuing Education Accreditations
The Ohio State University College of Social Work, (Provider: 1628), is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. The Ohio State College of Social Work maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 4/30/25-4/30/28. Social workers completing this course receive 5.5 clinical continuing education credits.
The Ohio State University College of Social Work provides approvals for continuing education for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists that are accepted by the state of Ohio Counselor, Social Work, and Marriage and Family Therapist (CSWMFT) Board.

Certificates & CE Reporting
CE certificates will be available for download in your learner portal within 1 business day after submitting the evaluation survey.
Hours for those with Ohio licenses that are submitted with the evaluation survey will be reported to CE Broker every 14 days (twice per month).
⚠️ Note: You may only complete this training once for CE credit. You may revisit the content, but only one certificate will be issued and credit will only be reported to CE Broker one time.
